Discover Ancient Craftsmanship in Mykonos

Discover Ancient Craftsmanship in Mykonos

Ancient Greek Sandals is a brand built on valuing beautiful, traditional craftsmanship; for this reason, it often partners with other brands and individuals who share this value. As part of this initiative, this year Ancient Greek Sandals has worked with Greek textile artist Faye Chatzi to create a capsule collection inspired by the art of weaving.

Chatzi is dedicated to reviving a process that has been practiced in the Cyclades for over 9,000 years. Chatzi’s hand-crafted textiles are made from ethically sourced Mykonian wool and naturally dyed silk and her practice shines a light on a craft that has endured over thousands of years.

Based on the Greek island of Mykonos, Chatzi is in residence at one of the most beautiful hotels on the island, Kalesma. Kalesma Mykonos has collaborated with the artist to revive the time-honoured weaving technique within the hotel’s walls. Using traditional tools like the handloom, guests can witness this ancient weaving process, and take part in some very special workshops where you can create items to keep forever.

Don’t miss Chatzi’s capsule collection with Ancient Greek Sandals – a line-up of five styles which are adorned with woven detailing and created exclusively on a handloon in Chatzi’s atelier, capturing the essence of Mykonos. They are available to shop at our Athens store, and at Hotel Kalesma in Mykonos.

Ancient Greek Sandals co-founder and creative director Christina Martini comments, "I love Faye’s story and dedication to her craft – from shearing her own flock of sheep to creating beautiful and unique garments which honour the ancient art of weaving. She always stays honest and true to her art and the sandals in our exclusive collaboration reflect this commitment: each pair celebrates her raw yet refined aesthetic."
