Product Care

Variations in colour and texture are the prized characteristics of beautiful, tanned leather. Over time, the leather will acquire a patina and may also darken with exposure to direct sunlight, further enhancing the natural look of your sandals or your small leather goods. In order to keep your shoes in good condition, the following general leather care is recommended:

Avoid exposing your leather goods to humidity and direct sources of heat eg.radiators

Protect your leather goods from rain and moisture.

Always store your products in the Ancient Greek Sandals dust bag provided, ensure the shoes are well ventilated before storage.

Avoid contact with rough and abrasive surfaces.

Prevent any contact with alcohol (perfume) and greasy substances (make-up, body lotions) To clean your leather goods, wipe with a clean, soft dry cloth.

Please kindly protect all vachetta and suede leather with a waterproof spray. To be safe, first test the spray in an inconspicuous area. If all is well, go ahead and apply the spray all over your suede shoes or other suede items, and let it dry completely.

In case of contact with water, do not rub the leather: use a clear dry cloth and apply a gentle tapping motion to absorb the liquid. If stains occur, dab the whole area with a damp soft cloth and leave to air dry. Apply a clear leather cream using gentle circling motions.

To clean calf hair (pony) leather we kindly recommend using a damp cloth or a soft brush, always working in the direction of the grain, never brushing the fur back and forth. Regular gentle brushing will prevent a build-up of dirt and the consequent matting.

Product Care - Jellies sandals

To preserve the beauty and clarity of our jelly sandals, we recommend cleaning them with care:

  • Use mild soap and lukewarm water, gently applied with a soft cloth or sponge
  • Avoid harsh chemicals, alcohol-based detergents, and abrasive materials, as these may compromise the finish

Once cleansed, lightly remove excess moisture and allow the sandals to air dry naturally. Do not dry with a cloth or towel, as this may cause water marks or alter the shape of the material.

Additional Advice

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or heat, as this may affect the finish and overall appearance.
  • Store your sandals in a cool, dry place when not in use.

After you have cleaned your shoes and let them dry, they seem to lack their original luster, use a soft, clean cloth to
apply a teeny amount of petroleum jelly to your shoes. This will restore their shine as well as protect the material from becoming brittle and cracking. Allow the petroleum jelly to soak into the sandals for a few minutes, then wipe away
any excess with a new clean, soft cloth.

Shining

Before applying petroleum jelly, ensure your shoes are thoroughly cleaned. Removing all dirt, dust, and residue will allow the surface to regain its natural luster and ensure a smooth, even shine.

Storing

Store your jelly sandals thoughtfully,
in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This will help prevent warping, softening, or discoloration over time. Keep them separate from other footwear to avoid color transfer or staining. To preserve their original form, avoid storing the sandals in ways that may distort their shape, such as stacking, hanging by the straps, or placing them under pressure. We recommend keeping your jelly sandals in their shoe box or neatly positioned on a shoe rack, ensuring the material remains relaxed and supported.

Product Care - Leather sandals

Leather

To preserve the natural beauty of the leather, gently clean using a soft, damp
cloth, never wet, to remove surface dirt.

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, heat, or moisture, and limit contact with abrasive surfaces, which may compromise the finish over time.
  • When not in use, store your shoes in the accompanying Ancient Greek Sandals dust bag, away from light and friction.

Suede leather

To preserve the rich, velvety texture, brush gently and regularly, ideally after
wear, to maintain a refined, flawless appearance.

  • Use a rubber brush to lightly remove surface dirt, then follow with a bristle brush, brushing in the direction of the grain to restore a smooth, even finish.
  • Avoid exposure to moisture, heat, and direct sunlight, and store your shoes in the accompanying Ancient Greek Sandals dust bag when not in use.

Patent leather

To maintain its signature shine and enhance resistance to abrasions and fine scratches, patent leather should be cleaned after each wear.

  • Using a soft flannel cloth, lightly moistened with water, gently wipe the surface to remove dust and residue. Finish by buffing with a dry cloth to restore a smooth, high-gloss finish.
  • Store your shoes away from direct sunlight and heat, and protect them from contact with abrasive surfaces when not in use.
Product Care Instructions

Raffia

Raffia can be refreshed with gentle, considered cleaning. Begin by removing surface dust using a soft bristle brush.

  •  Lightly dampen a microfiber cloth or sponge with water and gently cleanse the surface. If needed, add a small amount of neutral or delicate soap.
  • Allow the shoes to air dry naturally, away from direct sunlight and heat sources, to preserve the integrity of the fibers.

Satin

• Remove gently surface dirt using a soft
bristle brush.

• Lightly dampen a microfiber cloth or sponge with water and gently cleanse the fabric. If needed, add a small amount of neutral or mild soap, focusing
carefully on the most soiled areas. Rinse the cloth frequently to ensure
effective, gentle cleaning.

• Rinse the cloth frequently to keep it clean and better remove dirt.

• Lightly dampen a microfiber cloth or sponge with water

Allow the shoes to air dry naturally,
away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

Additional Advice

Satin is a delicate fabric, so it is
important to treat it with care. Always test the cleaning mixture on a hidden
area of the shoe before applying it to the entire surface. Avoid rubbing the
shoe with force, as this may damage the material. If the stain is very large or
persistent, it is advisable to take the sandals to a professional shoe cleaner.

Pony

Pony skin is a delicate, hair-on leather and should be kept away from water, as moisture may cause the hair to lift
or curl. To remove surface dust and revive the texture, gently brush with a soft, dry brush, lifting the hair without
applying pressure.

If stains occur, blot immediately with a dry cloth. Never rub or scrub, as this may damage the hair.

Store away from direct sunlight and
keep the shoes in their dust bag when not in use, to protect the texture
and finish.

Product Care - Sole Maintenance
Maintaining Our Products
SOLE MAINTENANCE

The soles of your Ancient Greek Sandals are made from smooth and delicate leather and will therefore be subject to marking upon first wear. This is not a manufacturing defect. It is a natural process and part of the normal wear of the shoes.

It is not recommended to walk on any wet surfaces as this may alter the structure of the soles and cause staining to the upper.
